Why we started
the Adult Student Center:

Going to college can be a daunting experience even for the best-prepared student. It involves a major life change as young students leave home and learn to survive in a new social environment. That's why there are so many resources for high school students and their parents to help them find and apply to colleges, get financial aid, and prepare them for their new lives.

For the adult student, many years removed from the academic environment, going to college represents just as big a challenge. The adult student may not have to leave home--in fact, many are turning to distance-learning programs taken in the comfort of their own homes--but the demands of college require significant changes in their personal and family lifestyles. And there are many differences in the adult student's college experience.

* Adult students look for more detailed information on college programs and admissions requirements in a much narrower geographic range.

* We need more flexible programs and support in juggling personal commitments.

* We are much more isolated as we try to acquire new skills.

* We often have to cope with course curricula, grading systems and textbooks geared for students just out of high school.

* We have to relearn, or unlearn, study habits.

There are few resources designed to help adults through this experience. While the Norman Davies Group doesn't pretend to have the answers to these issues, we believe that by providing a forum for adult students, we will be able to help each other. If you're thinking about going back to school, or if you're already in school, we hope you'll join us.

Who we are:

Hello.  I'd like to introduce you to the founders of the Norman Davies Group. I'm Nancy and my partner, in life as in business, is Norman.

The inspiration for this endeavor, as with most, has come from many directions. I have spent more years in some form of schooling than out, in the course of which I have experienced more than my share of both frustration and satisfaction. I only wished I had been able to get more guidance along the way.

Norm, after an illustrious career as a pilot and flight school owner, has for some reason dedicated his retirement to become my mentor. He is one of the most exceptional teachers I have ever known. It is Norm who convinced me the best way to use my experience is to share it.

Together, we are excited about the possibility of gathering a group of people who can help each other. We are only here to provide the spark and guide the conversation. You are the Norman Davies Group.
