Opportunities
Women in Engineering.
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) provides
scholarship awards each year for women pursuing bachelor's or
graduate degrees in approved engineering and computer science
programs. For details visit the SWE web site.
Women in Accounting.
According to a survey conducted by the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting among 20,000 women accountants and CPAs, in 1996 over 68% had earned bachelor's degrees and over 22% had master's degrees.
If you are interested in returning to school to enter a bachelor's degree program in accounting, you might be eligible for an EFWA "Women in Transition" scholarship. And if you're already in a bachelor's degree program, but fear you may have to drop out for financial reasons, you should look into EFWA's "Women at Risk" scholarships.
Women in IT.
It's been reported that fewer and fewer women are
pursuing careers in computers and information technology. Well,
maybe it's just the way it's being taught. According to Capella
University, female enrollment in their IT degree programs is on
the rise. They seem to think women can be intimidated by male-
dominated on-campus technology classes, and are much more
comfortable online.
