    Legal education.
I have recently had several requests from career changers who want to become lawyers: Where do I start? Are there any undergraduate programs to prepare me for law school? My research reveals that there is no set path to law school. But there are excellent guidelines available from the American Bar Association (ABA) on the skills, values and knowledge areas you'll need as a lawyer.

Another question is whether legal studies are available online. Yes, there are legal courses online. There are even a few law degrees offered online. BUT proceed with caution! The ABA does not accredit online-only degrees, and this can seriously hinder your career in law.

  • To search for law schools by geographic area, keyword, or LSAT score, visit the Law School Admissions Council.

  • For information on loans and financial aid for law school (and other graduate or professional studies), visit the Access Group.

  • You can find resources for minorities in law (and health) at Indiana University. This website includes many links to non-University resources.

  • And if you're already taking law or paralegal courses, here's an excellent resource for legal news and research – Jurist. This resource is written by law students at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and edited and directed by a law professor. Jurist provides access to the text of legal documents, bills, opinions, and legislation in the news. You can search the database for cases and statutes, read about famous trials, and link to law schools and law reviews.

  • Business and Management Education for Minorities: Diversity Pipeline is a comprehensive resource for African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans interested in pursuing business and management studies. Medical school for non pre-med students.
Students who know they want to go to medical school typically take bachelor's programs heavy in science courses. What about those who don't decide until later – even once out of school – that they want to study medicine? If they have bachelor's degrees with a strong liberal arts focus, they should have no problem, though they will need to pick up some science courses. There are non-degree programs now available to prepare these students for medical school: Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med programs. To find a list of formal programs, visit the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Nursing Students. Search for nursing schools throughout the US by state, degree level or specialty at All Nursing Schools. You'll also find answers to many common questions about licensing requirements, types of programs, picking a nursing school, and a variety of nursing specialty fields.

Physician Assistants. Are you interested in medicine but not ready for the rigors of a M.D. program? You might consider a career as a physician assistant. Physician assistants are licensed to practice medicine under a physician's supervision. For information about becoming a PA, including state listings of accredited PA programs, visit the American Academy of Physician Assistants website. Scholarships are available for AAPA student members attending accredited PA programs.
